After quite a few years of hiatus we continue our popular series about hot, masculine male actors in the mainstream film industry. And what better choice to begin with than hot Australian actor Bren Foster.
Bren started his acting career while he was in high school. His mother is of Cypriot descent and his father of English and Irish heritage. When he finished High School, Bren decided to continue to pursue his acting career by studying Film and Video production. After that he traveled to New York where joined “The Barrow Group Theater”. After he returned to Australia, Bren was accepted into The University of Western Sydney, also known as Theater Napoleon, which is one of Austraia's leading Drama schools.
In the beginning, Bren worked on several Australian television dramas, but the real breakthrough came when he got a part in the highly acclaimed Aussie feature film “Cedar Boys”. He became very popular as “Jamal” (a criminal in prison who desperately tries to guide his younger brother away from the criminal path), which earned him both popularity among viewers and critical acclaim.
Bren is mostly known today for his role of Wolf Taylor in TV series Last Ship where he plays a hardened military man proficient in many martial arts. He also appeared in National Geographic channel where his and other martial artists' skills are put to the test under scientific scrutiny in the feature length documentary called “Fight Science”. He also appears in “Extreme Martial Arts” programme on Discovery Channel.
At the same time with his acting career Bren pursued the career of a martial artist. He started with Karate and hapkido when he was only 6 years old, and then proceeded with Taekwondo and Hwarangdo. He achieved black belts in all of those martial arts. The influence of the above mentioned martial arts is evident in his style of kickboxing as well. Currently, Bren holds a 7th Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo, and is considered one of the most accomplished Taekwondo martial artists in the world. He also studied Brazilian jiu-jitsu with UFC veteran Anthony Perosh. Bren says it took him 18 years of hard work and sweat to earn his black belt in that art. Bren says that there were many setbacks due to injuries and other reasons, but that he loves jiu-jitsu to death and will always study it.
There has been a large number of people from the film industry that would like to participate in MMA, because it is seen as something cool. However, Bren has a different view of these things. He says that he considers himself an “old-school, traditional” martial artist, with a traditional martial arts mentality. He believes in respect and honor, and believes that one's behavior is a representation of the art they practice. Therefore, Bren is not very fond of the trash-talking and false bravado that can be seen so often in the new movies that feature MMA figths. It's not something he would like to be associated with. But Bren training in the traditional MMA way – that's something you can count on.
When asked who out of all the characters he played on the big screen is the closest to the true MMA fighter in real life, Bren says that it's a close tie between Roman Hurst from Force of Execution and Wolf Taylor from The Last Ship. Roman has the youth, but Wolf has the experience
Bren thinks that the secret to his success is th state of one's mind, as well as the innermost deep power that spurs you to action. It's that thing that is constantly telling you to move and to strive towards your goal. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't act on those impulses and thoughts. The few that do act usually achieve great success in life. “Success is no more than doing the things you know you should do whether you like or not and ensuring it moves you toward a worthy ideal, progressively moment to moment”.
We hope you'll enjoy the pics and several preview videos of this superhot martial artist and will find him inspirational… in more ways than one!
